Card Player Magazine is making changes to its Player of the Year race, adding many more events to the list of poker tournaments that will award points in the POY race. Most of the events that have been added are preliminary events at tournaments located outside of the United States. Card Player Magazine’s goal is to make the Player of the Year race more competitive by increasing the number of events, and therefore, the number of points that can be won. More players will be able to compete by playing in tournaments that are convenient to them, instead of having to always travel to Los Angeles or Las Vegas, the strongholds of poker events in the POY race.

Now, preliminary events at the Asia Pacific Poker Tour, Aussie Millions, and the European Poker Tour will be included in the standings as long as the events have buy-ins of $300 or more and at least sixty entrants. The preliminary events to the World Series of Poker Circuit Events have also been added to the standings, with the same entry requirements as the non-US events.

David “The Dragon” Pham is the reigning champion of the Card Player Player of the Year Award and is focused on winning the award for a second consecutive time. David has already had success in 2008 and is among the frontrunners of the leaderboard. However, he will find a lot more competition in this already heated race now that the new rules have been implemented.

Visit the Card Player Magazine website at www.cardplayer.com to find out the current standings, the events included in the POY race, or any other information you wish to know about the Player of the Year Award and the ongoing battle to become its recipient.
