25% up to $100 bonus at Pacific Poker

david-pham.pngDavid “The Dragon” Pham, who won the Cardplayer Player of the Year award for the second time in 2007, took second place at Event #11, $1000 No Limit Holdem, of the LA Poker Classic, a finish that boosts him into the top ten of the current Player of the Year race, a race that David Pham is once again determined to win.

Event #11 drew a player field of 265 players and held a prize pool of just more than $257,000. Thu Nguyen won the event after slaying The Dragon in heads-up play. Nguyen won $72,000 for his victory, and David Pham earned $43,000 for his runner-up performance. David also earned 540 Player of the Year points to add to his collection. Earlier this year David had placed fourth in the EPT PCA event, which awarded David 1,200 Player of the Year points. David had a chance to win even more points, having entered the final table with the chip lead; however, anything can happen at the final table and David could only manage a fourth place finish.

These points have boosted David into ninth place in the Player of the Year standings. Four-time winner Men “The Master” Nguyen is in seventh place and Canadian Michael McDonald, winner of EPT Dortmund, is currently atop the leaderboard in first place.

The standings don’t mean much as it is only February, but the standings are still interesting to follow.
