aussie_millions-header.jpgAt approximately 4:30 in the morning on January 21st, Jason Potter was robbed at knife-point after making a trip to a McDonald’s near the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia, where Potter had just finished in 31st place, earning $30,000. While walking back across the Spencer Street Bridge, Potter was struck in the head and a hand then reached into the front pocket of his hooded sweatshirt and relieved Potter of the winnings that Potter had been holding there. Potter originally attempted to resist, but when his attackers drew knives he quit resisting and let the thieves go with the money.

Thursday night, after executing two search warrants, Melbourne police arrested two men in connection with the robbery. The first man is 32-year old Dwayne Johnstone, who is facing five charges thwhich include armed robbery, assault, and drug possession. The second man is 26-year old Vhyharn Arumughasamy, who is facing only one charge, that one being armed robbery. It is clear from the charges that the Melbourne police believe that it was Johnstone who hit Potter in the head, therby allowing the thieves to steal the money while Potter was trying to catch his bearings. It is not known at this time whether any of the money that was taken from Potter has been recovered by police.

The two men appeared in court today, appearing before Magistrate Sarah Dawes who ordered that the two appear before the Melbourne Magistrates Court in March. Neither of the two men applied for bail.
